About the St. Cecilia Music Series

The most beautiful music you’ve never heard. This is the essence of the St. Cecilia Music Series. SCMS aims to fill in the blanks between Buxtehude and Bach. Between Dufay and Dandrieu. Between Monteverdi and Marcello.  After a single performance from St. Cecilia, you’ll know that beyond all the composers you’ve already heard rest scores of other unknown or under-known artists of equal and sometimes greater talent. SCMS focuses on this music between the lines of history in hopes of offering a more complete, authentic story of early music.  First started in 1995 by First Presbyterian Church of Austin, a church with a long history of support for music and the arts, St. Cecilia has evolved under the leadership of James Brown, an accomplished violist da gamba in his own right. Today, with the support of rich local talent like La Follia and the Texas Early Music Project, St. Cecilia hosts renowned early musicians from around the globe, bringing top-rate programming to the Austin community.  We invite you to join our email list for access to early invitations to upcoming programs, private events, and special pricing.
